Sony Unveils New Playstation Branding

Sony Unveils New Playstation Branding. Sony is simplifying the branding it uses for games developed by its Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios teams with a new logo and a new, much shorter name: PlayStation Studios. On Tuesday the company unveiled the branding, which comes with a new animation that, yes, does indeed look very much like the Marvel Studios intro that plays before Marvel’s movies.

The opening animation for PlayStation Studios games features Sony’s characters — Nathan Drake from Uncharted, Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, Kratos from God of War, Ratchet and Clank, and others — reflected upon the 3D versions of the triangle, circle, cross, and square icons.

According to a report from GamesIndustry.biz, the new PlayStation Studio branding will launch alongside the PlayStation 5 this holiday season. The branding will be featured on games developed and managed by Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios. Eric Lempel, senior vice president and head of global marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, tells Games Industry that the animation (and shorter versions of it) will appear before games and trailers.

“We have been thinking about how we unite all of these great games under one brand, and really the purpose of that is to make the consumer understand that, when they see this brand, they’re getting ready for a robust, innovative, deep experience that they’ve come to expect from games coming from PlayStation,” Lempel explained.

The PlayStation Studios logo will also be featured on discs and game packaging, Lempel said.

PlayStation Studios’ new animated intro follows a similar effort from the Xbox team last year. Like the Marvel Studios intro (and now PlayStation Studios), the Xbox Game Studios animated intro incorporated characters and imagery from Microsoft’s 13 internal game development studios.
